It’s National Apprenticeship week – and at Holroyd Homes we are proud to be supporting a pair of apprentices who are building the foundations to a successful career in construction.

Ryan Mosley, 23, first started working with Holroyd Homes in 2020 as a telehandler driver but is now a qualified joiner after recently competing his level 2 joinery qualification. He started his level 3 in advanced joinery last month.

Ryan says; “I’ve found that the apprenticeship has been great experience for me so far. The course has allowed me to combine hands-on work with professional training and practical skills, with my one day per week at Kirklees College being balanced alongside being on site with Holroyd Homes the rest of the time. It’s been brilliant to have been part of the team on-the job, being able to study for a qualification as well as getting paid – all at the same time.” Ryan has proved to be a hardworking member of the team; testament to this is the fact that he earned himself a distinction in his level 2 qualification.

Joining Ryan on-site is Robert Sykes, 27, who is also a qualified joiner and on the cusp of completing his level 3 joinery qualification. A popular member of the team, Robert has been with Holroyd Homes for the last three years and has also thoroughly enjoyed the joinery apprenticeship.

“On-site, the joinery techniques that I’ve learnt as part of the apprenticeship have been able to be applied immediately, allowing me to build up a toolkit of practical carpentry skills and knowledge,” says Robert. “The wider joinery team at Holroyd Homes are fantastic and because David, John and Adam have all completed this same apprenticeship many years back I’m never short of their help or advice. I’m really proud of what I’ve achieved so far and I’d encourage anyone considering an apprenticeship to just go for it!”

Jack Holroyd, Director at Holroyd Homes, comments; “We’re proud to invest in and support our apprentices, being able to offer them a great learning environment to facilitate life-long, transferable skills in the construction of high quality homes. Both Ryan and Robert are valuable members of our team at Holroyd Homes and we’re delighted that they’ve both undertaken an apprenticeship which can often prove to be the foundation of a long and successful career.”
