So, what is it really like to live in a Holroyd Home?

Here, the new owners of The Farmhouse at Broad Lane Farm, Upperthong, tell us about their first-hand experience of buying a Holroyd Home and why they’d wholeheartedly recommend Holroyd Homes to others.

Describe your new home

It’s absolutely fantastic!

It’s really unique in that it’s a rebuilt grade II listed cottage which has the best of both worlds as it’s a pristine, brand new home with all the characterful features you’d hope for in an older building.

We can’t believe the standard of our new home. We may have downsized, but we’ve gained in quality. Our family and friends love our new home too.

What were the deciding factors when buying your new home?

We were leaving behind our family home for the last 24 years in Chester which we adored and so we knew where we were moving to needed to be very special.

We were relocating to Huddersfield to be closer to family and didn’t know the area, but wanted to ideally locate to a lovely village with amenities close by and to feel part of a small community, and so Upperthong was perfect for all of those reasons. The location of Broad Lane Farm is also perfect as it’s positioned halfway between where one of our daughters lives and where our granddaughter lives. We’d seen The Farmhouse come up on the market when we were searching the internet and we came over to look, stood on the foundations, and said right there and then “we’ll have it!”

It was a leap of faith as it was difficult for us to envisage what it would be like when it was finished, particularly whilst we were standing on the footings in the middle of a building site! The artists impression which we had to go off was pretty impressive, but we must say that the finished product surpasses this by miles.

In addition to its location, we had some criteria that were very specific and so we expected that it’d be difficult to find exactly what we were looking for but The Farmhouse exceeds them all. Our home in Chester was getting to the stage where it needed things doing to it and so moving forwards, we were looking for something brand new.  We also wanted something characterful which looked out onto a view as this is what we had with our previous home. Well, our new home ticks all these boxes and we couldn’t be happier.

What do you love most about your new home?

Where do we start! I think it’s the luxury of it all that we love the most. We wake up each morning and know that nothing needs doing and it’s a great feeling that everything is so pristine. It still feels like we’re on holiday and we feel very lucky!

Our favourite room is the kitchen diner. It’s a huge, light space and acts as our conservatory, dining room and kitchen all in one which works brilliantly for us and it’s a great space when we’re hosting. The bifolding doors allow so much light in and bring the outdoors inside, we love them.

It says it all that it was a joy to live at our previous home, but we haven’t missed it once because our new home is so special.

What was your experience like of buying a Holroyd Home?

It was great. Even though it was a bit of a step into the dark buying a home off-plan, we had the confidence of seeing the finished, quality homes at Upper Croft and could see how fantastic they looked.

The team have been great throughout the entire process and have been nothing but friendly and helpful the whole time. We were crossing the Pennines every couple of weeks to check on progress and got to know the builders well. Danny, John, Dave and Richard, to name a few, were always considerate and informative, and had the right amount of friendly banter! They take real pride in their work and are true craftsmen!

Would you recommend Holroyd Homes to others?

Absolutely.

The finish is so much better than the other new-build homes we went to look at, we love our new home. The attention to detail is superb throughout and it speaks volumes that we’ve had passers-by stop and tell us how beautiful our home looks from the street and what a lovely job the Holroyd’s team have done in restoring it. There have been so many thoughtful extra touches such as the moving in gifts and the beautiful trees that were planted in the garden; it’s lovely as these will grow with our home.

We’ve felt really well looked after by the team and the aftercare side of things has been great too. Buying a brand new home, we were warned by family to maybe expect a long list of snags but we’ve had hardly any.

We’re just over the moon with everything and want to say a big thank you to the whole team for delivering our dream home which has surpassed our expectations.
