Meet Darran, our absolute star of a machine operator at Holroyd Homes. He’s a dab hand at being in the right place at the right time and there’s nothing more he likes than to be kept busy! Read on to find out about his role.

How long have you been working at Holroyd Homes?

I’ve been part of the team since September last year and came from a domestic/commercial background. I can’t believe it’ll be coming up to a year soon – time flies when you’re having fun!

Talk us through what a typical day is like for you on site.

In one word – busy!!

There’s a lot of bodies on site at the moment progressing the Phase II homes and, with two teams of bricklayers on site to provide materials to, I find there’s never a dull moment on site! There’s also a team of joiners who are currently on with tasks such as putting the roof trusses in place and laying the floors so joinery materials need to be in the right place at the right time to make the whole job run as smooth as possible.

Another aspect to my role is keeping up with the deliveries arriving on site and unloading these throughout the day. I also oversee the general appearance of site and help to keep it tidy, ensuring skips are empty and keeping the roads clean.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy working alongside a great team; they’re a great bunch on site and everyone has the same ethos.

I also really like the challenge involved with my role. Sometimes the pressure is really on and I feel like I need to be in two places at once but I really enjoy being kept on my toes and love overcoming the challenges that I’m faced with.

There’s a number of things that I really enjoy about my job, but I think I mostly love the fact that I’m working outside in the great outdoors and getting fresh air. It’s not a bad view from Fold Farm either!

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?

I’d like to think I’d still be working in the Holroyd Homes team into the future. I’m enjoying my current role but would also like to keep progressing my skills and experience over time. In five years’ time hopefully I’ll have seized any available opportunities from Holroyd Homes to add more strings to my bow such as being qualified to operate heavier machinery – I did say that I love a challenge!

Where can we find you when you’re not at work?

Probably on the golf course! After a break from golf, I’ve only recently got back into this with my brother-in-law and I’m enjoying being back into it so far!

Outside of work I’m also kept on my toes as my partner and I have a young daughter! There’s no rest for the wicked! 😊
